After a traineeship at the german public broadcaster NDR he worked in a small investigative research unit in northern Germany for some years. During this time he also visited the Middle East from time to time to report (i.e. from Tahrir Sqaure) about the Arab Spring.
He studied German Language, Political Science and Education in Marburg and Dresden and lived in Damascus to learn arabic.
In this time he came up with the idea of a multimedia magazine on the Middle East – „Soukmagazine“. Colourful like an arabic market place – a souk – he reported from Tunisia to Iran with his colleagues. For this magazine and his reportings he won several prestigious awards in Germany, i.e. the „CNN Journalist Award“. He was named among the newcomers of the year in 2010 by business magazin „Medium Magazin“.
Simon loves photography and is passionat about long form radio features. He also takes video footage and gives lectures on journalism and the Middle East at several institutions and universities (i.e. University of Passau, Notre Dame University Beirut).
He is a member of the North African Foreign Correspondents Club (NAFCC), Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE) and Freischreiber.
